Meet the new SU!

Congratulations to all of the students who took part in our SU elections. It was a very close competition and a brilliant campaign. All of the results are here but particular congratulations to our two Presidents Jack Pattison and Robyn Read.

Peer Mentors & Mental Health First Aiders for 2021-22

We are looking to recruit and train 15 volunteer Peer Mentors/Mental Health First Aiders for 2021-22.

You will join the team of Peer Mentors where you will work with new students helping them settle into college and provide support throughout the academic year.

You must be willing to commit to attending monthly meetings, organising half-termly mental health events and supporting the Wellbeing Team.

You will be trained in Mentoring Skills and Youth Mental Health First Aid.

We welcome applications from resilient students who have excellent listening, communication and organisation skills.

If you are interested, please apply by writing a covering letter and answering the following five questions:

a) Provide three reasons why Varndean College will benefit from having Peer Mentors and Mental Health First Aiders.

b) What three skills do you have to be a good Peer Mentor/Mental Health First Aider?

c) Suggest three ideas that could be used to help promote and raise awareness of positive mental health at Varndean College.

d) Respecting confidentiality, describe a time when you have helped someone. Explain what a difference it made to them.

e) Please include any other relevant information that demonstrates your suitability to the role.

DSA Seminar 28th April

Summer School


The Reading University is launching their Brilliant Club Summer School! This event will be free to attend and delivered virtually. It will give you the opportunity to:

  • develop academic skills with the support of PhD students and academic tutors

  • find out more about subjects they can study at university

  • meet like-minded students from across the country

  • benefit from a £1000 bursary if they complete their assignment for a high standard and apply to Reading subsequently

Spaces are limited to 50 students this year. The deadline for applications is 3rd May 2021 and you can apply using this application form.
