Varndean “FESTIVAL OF PROGRESSION’
With Glastonbury cancelled and foreign holidays very unlikely Varndean is holding a mini festival linked with education - of course! This will be your chance to find out about higher education, apprenticeships and 100’s of jobs. It’s an opportunity to speak to industry specialists and possibly secure work experience. This is something last year's students did not have - make the most of it!

Events include:

Year 1 exams 21st-25th June 2021
We are running year 1 exams for most subjects in the week beginning 21st June. This is a chance for you to get a feel of what it is like to have formal exams in your subjects and they are not progression exams, they will not determine whether you progress to year 2 of your courses. Instead they are a chance for you to measure your performance in a formal setting, to get a flavour of what it is like to sit an exam in college and to help you know what you might need to work on before September.
The teaching time table will be suspended that week and we will operate an option block system as follows:
The morning session will run from 9.00am -12.00pm and the afternoon session will run from 1.00pm - 4.00pm.
The precise location of the exam and any exam arrangements that you are entitled to will be available nearer the time.
Not all subjects are running exams. If a course is not running an exam then you will have an extended lesson in that subject according to the above timetable (e.g. if you have BTEC Business in option 2 then you will have an extended lesson on Wednesday morning in your normal teaching classroom).
If you do not know which option block you are in then either see this link or your subject teacher will be able to tell you.
Mental Health Campaign in Brighton and Hove
Varndean College is part of Brighton & Hove Citizens which is an alliance of education, faith, and community organisations working together for the common good. The idea is that if lots of groups and organisations join together they can bring about more positive changes in the local area.
Over the last few months, Brighton Citizens has identified that the mental health of young people is a key priority for the group to focus on. So, the first stage in this is to get the views of as many pupils and students from around the city. The group will then present the findings to our local MPs, council and any other group that might be able to bring about the practical changes that are needed. The questions below are the same ones used by other schools and colleges so that we can get a picture not just here at Varndean but across the city.
If you have any questions about this, please email me.
